Black Horse Rider (Rev. 6:5-6)

Rev 6:5 And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse ; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.
Rev 6:6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny ; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

Black Horse-
Black - means the absence of light; enveloped in darkness: Sign of fear, famine, death.
Horse - is the sign of power.
Pair of balances in his hand
* Some say, scarcity of provisions for the poor and at great cost.
* This also is a sign for justice.
* A sign to make the exact weight for food with money. As in an economy.

Economy - The concise use of something:
* That is why the next verse says: A measure of wheat for a penny and three measures of barley for a penny;
* For a country to become a world power they have to be strong in the trade of goods and services. They also have to have control of trade routes.

The Balances – They are showing that lawmakers (Governments) are having more and more control of world trade. To have the control of the cost of food and other products.
This is also why the oil and wine are not hurt in the process.

I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say
* Someone calling out from the midst of the 4 beasts.
Not sure who is speaking here, not too many people have said who this might be.

A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny
Penny - In Greek it's called Denarion.
* A Denarion was the daily pay of a Roman soldier in the time of Christ. In the reign of Edward III, an English penny was a laborer's day's wages.

Wheat – Wheat is used in the scriptures as being a Born Again Christian.
* Jesus uses this as a sign of those who carry the Word in their heart.
(A Born Again Christian) Matthew 13:25. (This is not that analogy)

Barley - In Egypt, the barley harvest is about a month earlier than the wheat. The barley of the first crop was ready by the time of the Passover, in the month Abib. (March-April)
* It was usually the food of horses.  1 Kings 4:28
* Barley bread was used by poorer people. Judges 7:13, 2 Kings 4:42

Wheat and barley - being described in measurement for money, is showing that governments will have control over the pricing in world trade. This gives them power over people and countries. At times this could be more powerful than war.

See thou hurt not the oil and the wine

Oil- is a sign of the Holy Spirit.

Wine- is a sign of the Blood of our Lord Jesus.

* No matter what is going on in the world, the Gospel will not be hindered.
* The Holy Spirit will have the Blood of our Lord Jesus preached.
* The more problems in the world, the more the Gospel will be sought out.
* People are always looking for the truth about life. The more people seek the truth, the more the Holy Spirit will be moving in peoples lives.
